MEDIA RELEASE – 14 June 2019
Spotswood United wish to address any perceived absence of responsibility by Spotswood United following the extremely unsavoury incident at Sanders Park on June 1.
Since this incident club executives have been working through the process, expressed our concern to our players and team management and have cooperated with the TRFU investigation.
The club has a duty of care to ensure those that were cited through the process had their rights protected to a hearing without prejudice. As those individuals receiving sanctions now have a right to appeal, the club continues to support their right to a fair appeal process should that be the chosen path. As such the club is not able to comment on specific details.
Spotswood United has worked extremely hard over recent years to be a successful, respected and popular club. We are actively supporting local charities, schools and promoting family values and healthy community participation. It is upsetting that this incident is casting a shadow over all the good that the club has done.
Spotswood United does not condone acts of violence on or off the rugby field and regret involvement in the June 1 incident.
