Leading up to Saturday the team talked about improving from previous weeks and playing 80 minutes. For the first time this season there was competition for a starting spot and the chance to have fresh reserves. Unfortunately, two players pulled out late Friday night with injury and sickness so this did change the plans a bit.
The lads in the first half started with some big hard-hitting defence and some great movement of the ball. The first half was played a lot around halfway with both teams attacking and defending hard. Old boys managed to break the line and score 2 quick try’s around the 30 minute mark but right on half time Jacob Ince finished off some really good team play to make the score 22-17 at half time.
At half time the coaches and senior players talked about stringing some phases together and playing positive rugby. With most of the reserves fresh they would bring energy when they came on during the second half.
Old boys managed to score a try in at the 50th minute and then our lads pieced together some great offloads in the tackle & Malachi scored a great run away try from halfway which meant we were only 3 points behind. In the 56 and 58th minute old boys kicked a penalty goal followed by Ethan Reti kicking one which led to a good last 20 minutes of attacking rugby by both teams. Unfortunately, old boys managed to sneck in for a try with 5 minutes to go. The Spotty lads gave it there all in the last 5 minutes but just couldn’t quite put it together to score another try losing 35-27
There were lots of positives that came out of the game one being the lads played for 80minutes. That win isn’t far away.
Another big week this week preparing for the Inglewood.
