Division 1

Mellowpuff day was epic! ... despite the weather.

It’s always one of the most special days of the season for Spotty and one where we wear our hearts on our sleeves, for the trust, for the club and most definitely for Terry and Tanya.

We are always out in full force.

The club was just fizzing with excitement, especially when Terry comes in gives the most inspirational pep talks that would have anyone shedding those tears because his words always hit the heart strings.

It was one hell of game boys!

Absolutely epic to watch, and most certainly came down to the wire that’s for bloody sure!

80 minutes of solid rugby, hard hitting tackles and sheer grit and determination. 1 try a conversion and 3 penalty kicks making the score 7-9 to, unfortunately, the Chooks but in saying that ,the chooks couldn’t break our defence and only got their points by penalties!

Be proud of your achievement because you all have come a long way since that first game!

Braydon, sending healing and love and wish you a speedy recovery. It’s going to be a long road for you but we are all here for you! 

A special mention to the premier team who came to tautoko our team, for our team mate Wriley, who lost his dad earlier in the week, with a minute silence before kick-off. You could feel that aroha and unity surrounding everyone for Wriley. We appreciate it boys and thank you so much 🥰

We head to Hawera this weekend to play Southern. Let’s keep that intensity up do the mahi and the treats will come!

Premiers

For the last 15 years, Tanya, Terry and the Mellowpuff have allowed Spotswood United to wear the pink jersey.

Holey hecky she was an emotional day! Thank you all for support on the day.

To add to the spectacle, Paul Perez lead the Premiers out for his 50th start earning him a blazer ... finally.

Heading into the gale in the first half, it was going to be a long hard 40 minute slog, but the United lads found themselves on the backfoot early with two tries against them in the first 10 minutes.

The Doggies got onto the board after 15 minutes with a long-range penally into the breeze to Ethan Reti, who was running the cutter on the day.

The next 15 minutes belonged to the Blazer boy, Paul Perez, who twice scored identical tries back-to-back with pressure in the midfield causing spilt pill that Perez jumped on ... twice ... toeing the ball to the line and winning the race! - Not bad for an old fella! Reti was good to add the extras each time.

A yellow card to United hooker, Jacob Bossi, gave Tukapa the number advantage and muscled over for two tries before the break to own a 24-17 lead.

Turning around after the break, Reti made the most of the wind and kicked the Spotswood boys into good attacking territory, grabbing another 3 points himself too.

Step up fleet footer Canadian outside back, Noah Bain, who grabbed a double in the right corner with some spectacular finishing finishing off some outstanding all-round lead up play by United.

Noah's second meat pie giving the Premiers a 6 point lead with only 5 minutes to go.

It feels like Inglewood all over again at the same park ... the job wasn't done, and United let a try in through the midfield to Tukapa first five, under the sticks, with 2 minutes left.

The conversion ruined the near perfect day for United going down 30-31 at the death.

From the Premier lads - Condolences to Wriley and his Whanau, and speedy recovery to Brayden who broke is fibula in the early game and is awaiting surgery.

Bring on bus trip next weekend!
