It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our Life Member, Graham ‘Nicky’ Nixon, today.
Graham, affectionately known as Nicky, began his rugby career with the Spotswood College Old Boys, playing at the highest level. After the amalgamation of Spotswood Old Boys and Star, Nicky continued his rugby journey with Spotswood United, becoming an integral part of our club’s legacy.
Nicky’s contributions went beyond the field. He was an active and dedicated member of the Spotswood United board, holding various roles over the years, including Member of the Elective Committee, Vice President, President, and, until just last week, Past President. His commitment to the club was unwavering, and in 2010, he was honoured with the prestigious title of Life Member—a testament to his lasting impact on our community.
Nicky will always be remembered not just for his contributions, but for his larger-than-life personality and, of course, those iconic mutton chops that became his trademark. Some even joked he was born with them, as they were as much a part of him as his passion for rugby.
Tonight, we’ll raise a glass of DB Draught in your honour, Nicky, and your place at the leaner will always be reserved. Your loyalty, humour, and passion for Spotswood United Rugby will never be forgotten, and your presence will be deeply missed by all.
On behalf of the entire Spotswood United and United Rugby and Sports Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nixon family during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Nicky. You have left a legacy that will live on forever.
Also we would like to send out condolences to the Morris Family, after the passing of Noel ‘Tiger’ Morris early in the week. Noel was an active board member of the Star Rugby Club. |
