Incident Report: Spotswood United v Coastal Premier Match

[New Plymouth, 8 June 2024] - Following the recent Spotswood United v Coastal Premier match at Yarrow Stadium last Saturday, an unfortunate incident marred the conclusion of the match. During the customary post-match handshakes, a Coastal player was physically assaulted by a member of the Spotswood United team.

Regrettably, the altercation resulted in the Coastal player being knocked to the ground, necessitating medical attention. Emergency services promptly responded, and the injured player was transported to Taranaki Base Hospital for evaluation. We are relieved to report that the player has since been discharged.

In response to this distressing incident, law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation. As such, we are refraining from providing further details at this time. Nonetheless, we wish to express our profound disappointment that such an event has overshadowed what was an otherwise enjoyable and spirited game.

Spotswood United is committed to working in close collaboration with both Taranaki Rugby and Coastal Rugby to address this regrettable incident. Our utmost priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of all players and maintaining the integrity of the game. Spotswood United has contacted both players involved and are supporting their well-being to the upmost.
